What is Narcan?
When a person overdoses, the drug they’ve taken overwhelms the brain and interrupts the body’s natural impulse to breathe. Narcan, or Naloxone HCL, is a prescription nasal spray used to help reverse some of the effects of an opioid overdose. It works quickly to restore breathing and prevent death or brain damage. If you suspect someone may be suffering from the effects of an overdose and is exhibiting symptoms such as breathing problems or unresponsiveness, call 911 and administer Narcan immediately. An additional dose may be necessary.
